MAS recently completed a comprehensive turbine control system modernisation campaign for SOCAR Türkiye, covering critical rotating equipment at the STAR Refinery and Petkim Complex.
As a Woodward Premium Business Partner and Authorised Systems Integrator, MAS delivered the project on a turnkey basis, upgrading legacy Woodward turbine controllers with next-generation Woodward 505XT Digital Controllers.
The project supported long-term maintainability, improved operational reliability and platform standardisation across critical refinery assets.
Executed through a structured four-phase approach, the campaign included control system upgrade, turnaround support, platform standardisation and technical training for SOCAR engineering teams.
MAS replaced legacy Woodward 505 controllers with modern Woodward 505XT units on steam-driven cooling pumps and compressors, providing full engineering, configuration, commissioning and tuning support.
During the refinery turnaround, MAS deployed senior service engineers on site to support start-up, troubleshooting, safety validation and performance tuning under strict shutdown timelines.
Following the successful commissioning of priority equipment, MAS completed the remaining upgrades, expanding the 505XT platform across the installed base. This enabled SOCAR to standardise its turbine control architecture, simplify maintenance and improve operational consistency.
As part of the lifecycle support approach, MAS also hosted a multi-day technical training seminar for SOCAR STAR Refinery and Petkim engineering teams, covering system architecture, configuration, operation and simulation-based scenarios.
Through this integrated execution model, MAS delivered immediate operational benefits while supporting long-term system reliability, maintainability and operational resilience.
From Obsolescence to Long-Term Operational Resilience
By replacing legacy turbine controllers with a standardised Woodward 505XT platform, MAS helped SOCAR improve maintainability, operational consistency and lifecycle support for critical refinery assets.
The project demonstrates MAS’ ability to execute complex brownfield retrofits under strict turnaround conditions, combining OEM-certified technologies, field engineering expertise and structured knowledge transfer.
