MAS CEO Leonidas Zaimis contributes to the upcoming energy feature of Business Partners, the magazine of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, titled “Thought Leaders: Powering the Region- Energy Security, Connectivity, and the Path to Implementation.”
His article, “The Significance of Digitalisation for Energy Resilience in Europe,” addresses one of the most critical challenges of the energy transition: the need to move beyond energy supply security and build true system resilience through real-time digital infrastructure.
The article highlights that Europe’s shift away from Russian gas is a necessary step towards energy security. However, securing gas supply alone does not guarantee energy resilience. As electricity demand increases and renewable energy penetration grows, power systems are becoming more complex, more dynamic and more exposed to imbalance.
Key challenges discussed include the production uncertainty of wind and solar assets, the growing complexity created by distributed consumer PV installations, the short-term balancing limitations of storage and the increasing impact of extreme weather events on both production and demand.
As fluctuations become more frequent and more intense, the article underlines the need to move from traditional energy management towards real-time power management. Balancing production and consumption dynamically will become essential for maintaining grid stability and supporting Europe’s energy transition targets.
The article also points to the growing need for a unified digital infrastructure capable of managing both the production side and the demand side in real time. Such infrastructure will enable automated grid balancing, support portfolio optimisation and help large energy players respond to increasing market, regulatory and operational pressures.
MAS supports this transition through advanced power management, energy management, SCADA and digitalisation solutions designed for complex, mission-critical energy environments.
