Major retrofit of the automation, control and protection systems of a gas compressor station comprising two RR AVON gas turbines driving Dresser-Rand compressors.
The project addressed the reliability and operational limitations of an ageing compressor station, where the existing units had been operating for more than 20 years. The station was experiencing unexplained trips, reduced system transparency and difficulty maintaining stable process operating levels.
The client required a control and protection retrofit that could improve station reliability, support safer operation and increase compressor utilisation, while being executed within a planned major shutdown window.
MAS delivered a customised retrofit solution integrating modern control, protection, safety and monitoring systems across the compressor units, local operating environment and control room infrastructure. The project was undertaken on an engineering and procurement basis, with MAS providing detailed engineering, system development, installation supervision and commissioning support.
This project highlights MAS’ capability to deliver complex, time-sensitive brownfield execution for gas compressor station retrofits, where reliability, process stability and safe shutdown performance are critical.
MAS engineered an integrated retrofit solution combining advanced compressor control systems, gas turbine-driven compressor control, RR AVON gas turbine control upgrades and Dresser-Rand compressor automation.
The project also demonstrates MAS’ expertise in redundant unit control and protection systems, compressor anti-surge control, molecular-weight independent anti-surge algorithms, compressor load sharing systems, station ESD systems, F&G integration, vibration monitoring, EX-rated HMI panels, redundant central SCADA systems and DCS integration.
MAS supported the complete execution process through FAT, installation supervision and commissioning within the planned station shutdown window.
