Prime Power plants are plants that are part of the grid capacity and are usually in continuous operation or operate for long periods. MAS undertakes the complete upgrade of such power plants on an EPC basis.
The scope of such projects varies according to each plant’s age and needs. In general a power plant upgrade involves the re-design and upgrade of:
- Unit control systems (actuators, fuel delivery systems, governing systems, voltage regulation systems, etc.)
- Unit protection systems (mechanical protections, electrical protections, emergency shutdown systems, etc.)
- Unit monitoring systems (remote & local control & HMI systems)
- Plant control & protection systems (synchronization, load sharing, power management, automatic fault handing, etc.)
- Plant-wide SCADA systems
Although prime Power Plants are usually manned on 24hr basis, in some occasions (small plants – remote locations), plants need to operate completely automated (unmanned). Such projects have additional complications since protections and fault handing scenarios have increased requirements which include automatic recover from possible blackout. MAS has special proven solutions for such applications.
All MAS upgrade projects aim to undertake old power plants and deliver them as new with state of the art technology, increased efficiency and a new operation life expectancy.
Over the last 10 years MAS has executed complete power plant upgrades for over 30 plants ranging from 500KW to 500MW.
